授業概要 英字新聞のテキストを読み、時事問題に触れる。文中の単語・連語・構文に気をつけて読む。While reading で内容把握をし、After reading で英語の語順や語彙を身につける。生物応用化学科は選択必修科目ではありません。 　　到達目標 　　　1. 英字新聞に慣れ親しむこと。 　　　2. 英字新聞を読むためのノウハウを身につけること。 　　　3. 身の回りに起こっている様々な出来事に興味を持つこと。

成績評価の方法 この科目は学修単位科目であるので、（９０時間−講義時間）以上の自学自習を必要とする。したがって、科目担当教員が課した課題の内、｛（９０時間−講義時間）×３／４｝時間以上に相当する課題提出がないと単位を認めない。（各課題ごとの時間は担当教員が設定する。） 成績は、定期試験を70%、提出物10%、小テストを10%、発表を10%で評価する。
学生へのメッセージ(事前学習・関連科目・履修上の注意等) 必ず授業の準備をして授業に臨むこと(わからない単語の意味を調べる。本文を読んで大筋を理解する)。 英和および和英辞書を必ず持参すること。 ALCを使用した学習を習慣づけ、TOEIC試験の対策を行うこと。
