授業概要 VOAの特別番組の中から選ばれた科学、環境、技術革新等に関するレポートで構成されたテキストを読解する。語彙レベルのコントロールされた比較的平易な英文に親しみながら情報を的確に把握する英文読解力を得ることを目標とする。また、各章末の練習問題において内容理解のチェックのみでなく作文能力、語彙力の強化も図る。 　　到達目標 　　　1. 科学的内容の英文を読解するための語彙力を身につけること。 　　　2. 基本文法・構文の理解および応用ができること。 　　　3. 簡潔な英文の速読および精読ができること。 　　　4. 基本的な英作文能力を身につけること。

授業の進め方 原則として、各章本文読解に1.5〜2時間、練習問題に0.5〜1時間を使い、授業を進める。

成績評価の方法 この科目は学修単位科目であるので、（９０時間−講義時間）以上の自学自習を必要とする。したがって、科目担当教員が課した課題の内、｛（９０時間−講義時間）×３／４｝時間以上に相当する課題提出がないと単位を認めない。（各課題ごとの時間は担当教員が設定する。） 成績は、定期試験７０％、提出物等１５％、発表１５％で評価する。
